Nox Aeterna 2005 Gigreport
Baroeg, Rotterdam Friday, July 8th 2005
Tonight’s gig was going to be a bit special for me, we were going to play in a venue called ‘De Baroeg’. Though it isn’t very big, this place has a big name. A lot of very cool bands (some with big international names) have played here in the past and will play there in the future. For example Children Of Bodom, my favourite band, played there back in ’98. So I was very motivated to play there.
We were competing in a contest with four other bands, Final Solution, Operation Trendkill, Riverbreed and Umbilical. Debbie and myself arrived somewhere near 20.30, just in time to see the first band of the evening. Martin was already there and Mischa was delayed like usual ;-) The first band started playing at 20.30, we were scheduled to play at 22.30. So the long waiting began. Usually I don’t mind playing as one of the last bands that night, but this night I wanted to step on stage and rock as quickly as possible!!! And in that case two hours is a long period of time.
Our first fans arrived somewhere near 21.00, and it felt good to see some familiar faces. It’s always nice to see some friends in the first row when you’re on stage. After some talking, mostly about total crap or bullshit, we went backstage to prepare for the gig at 22.00
We played a 30 min. set:
1. Wargod 2. Unleash The Fury 3. Dreamcatcher 4. Whispers In The Dark 5. Suffocate 6. Deathwish
The gig went ok in my opinion, even though we didn’t have any keys that night (Ronald was on holiday) and the fact that Debbie wasn’t 100%. She broke a bone in her hand some weeks ago and the cast was taken off just three days before the gig.
We had some little problems in the start, but that was fixed pretty quickly. The crowd needed a little while to loosen up, but when we started playing Dreamcatcher hell broke loose in De Baroeg.
At the end the crowd was cheering for more from us, but unfortunately we couldn’t play more. After the gig we got a lot of compliments on our show, drank a few beers and waited for the judges decision. The jugde that night was the crowd, they could fill in a form and vote for their favourite band. I had a good feeling about the outcome, but it wasn’t ment to be like that. The winner that night was Final Solution, a hardcoreband, who were pretty good in my opinion. Not really my kind of music, but they pulled of a good gig.
So we didn’t win, but we are still in the running for a wildcard, so we are counting on the fans to vote for us!!!
For the people who were supporting us, BIG FUCKING THANKS!!!! Thanks to Mirjam Andernach for some cool pics of the gig.
Fuckin’ Heavy Metal
